PATIENT EDUCATION

WHAT TYPES OF HEALTH INSURANCE DO YOU ACCEPT?

Lakeview and Airline Physical Therapy and Spine are in network with almost every insurance company in the area. You can call our office to confirm.

DO I NEED A DOCTOR’S REFERRAL OR PRESCRIPTION?

As of 2016, physical therapists in Louisiana have "direct access." This means you no longer have to have a prescription from your doctor to attend physical therapy. We will however, always send a copy of your initial evaluation report and subsequent progress notes to your physician and any other healthcare provider you request so that they are aware of your treatment plan in therapy.

WHAT IS YOUR NEW PATIENT PROCEDURE?

Your first visit will be a one hour evaluation of your condition. We will discuss your history, your goals for therapy, and come up with a treatment plan together to begin meeting these goals. You will leave the first day with one simple home exercise, which will help you start your recovery on the first day! On your next visit we will re-assess how your "homework" went to make sure we are on the right track and that you are comfortable with the program. Each visit will last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes, depending on the individual and your specific condition. You should arrive in comfortable clothing 15 minutes prior to your appointment to fill out any necessary paperwork, or you can access it ahead of time here. Please also bring the following:

  1. Photo ID

  2. Insurance Card

  3. Therapy Prescription if you were referred by a physician

  4. Patient Intake Paperwork

WHAT IS THE MCKENZIE METHOD?

The Mckenzie Method or "MDT" was developed by New Zealand physical therapist Robin McKenzie and has grown to be the most well-researched approach within physical therapy today. Originally developed specifically for the treatment of spinal problems, MDT has been researched and expanded in recent years to be applied to any joint or soft tissue problem in the body. It is different from other therapy approaches in that it emphasizes a thorough history, assessment, and close collaboration between the patient and the therapist to work together for a rapid recovery. It encourages more patient independence by educating the patient on the problem, how to fix it, and how to prevent it from reoccurring again. Many patients who have "failed" traditional physical therapy see rapid resolution of their symptoms in just a few visits with a McKenzie therapist. Lakeview Physical Therapy and Spine and Airline Physical Therapy and Spine are part of only a handful of physical therapy clinics in the state that offers this specialized approach, and the only clinics in the New Orleans area built specifically around this approach.

DO YOU OFFER OTHER SERVICES?

Yes! Aside from the McKenzie Method, we are a full service physical therapy clinic that offers all standard PT treatments. We also offer cupping, dry needling, taping, and soft tissue mobilization. Please visit the our services page for more details.

HOW LONG ARE THE SESSIONS?

This depends on you, your goals, and our treatment plan. Therapy sessions can last anywhere from 45-90 minutes depending on your condition.

WILL I HAVE HOME EXERCISES TO PERFORM?

Yes! We believe that the patient must take an active role in their treatment, which means that you will be asked to perform 1-2 exercises at home or work regularly to speed up your treatment and get you back to doing what you love as quickly as possible!
